Hashimoto

What is Hashimoto's?

Hashimoto’s disease, also known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or chronic autoimmune thyroiditis, is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, leading to gradual thyroid hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism). Hashimoto’s is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the U.S. and affects about 5 in 100 people, with women being 10 times more likely to develop it.
